how to fix your brainrot?
January 5, 2025
I have spent the last 2 month researching how to fix my brainrot. I was testing everything on myself because I know everyone's throwing around advice about meditation apps and miracle supplements.
It started with the "hardcore reset" - and yes, it was as intense as it sounds. Every morning, I'd force myself into a cold shower. Started with just 30 seconds, but now I'm up to 2 minutes. It's like hitting your brain's reset button. Sounds like something you would never do, right? But here's the thing - it actually works. Along with this, I made the brutal decision to delete all my bookmarks and saved posts. Think of your brain like a browser with way too many tabs open; sometimes you need to force close everything and start fresh.
One of the biggest game-changers was switching from coffee to green tea. I stopped feeling like a crackhead by 3 PM - just clean, steady energy throughout the day. I also started doing "dopamine detox Sundays" where I literally just sit with my boredom. The first few weeks were absolute hell, but now my brain actually enjoys normal activities again.
Then there's the stuff that sounds weird but turned out to be effective. I discovered box breathing - not meditation everyone talks about, but a simple two-minute technique that stops your brain from going so fast.
Living somewhere where the sun basically forgot to exist, I bought one of those light therapy lamps. Using it while working actually made my brain feel awake again. I also went old school and started writing things down on paper instead of typing. Something about it makes your brain process information better - I don't know the science, but I can feel the difference.
The most radical change? I got a time-locking container for my phone. Sounds too extreme? Maybe. But it’s effective. Lock that thing up for 4 hours and watch your brain come back online. It's amazing how much mental clarity you can get when you're not constantly reaching for your phone.
Instead of going full digital hermit, I took a more realistic approach to social media. I made my phone display gray, which naturally made TikTok and Instagram boring. Suddenly, I didn't even want to scroll. I unfollowed everyone except actual friends and a handful of accounts that teach me something useful. Reddit got blocked during work hours, and I turned off all notifications except calls and texts from real people. Your brain doesn't need to know every time someone likes your tweet.
One of my favorite discoveries was doing "evening pages" before bed - just writing down everything that’s on my mind before going to sleep. So you are going to bed with a clear head, not thinking about what happened during the day or what you will do tomorrow.
Some of the most effective changes were actually the most basic ones nobody talks about. Fixing my posture with a proper laptop stand and chair helped me way more than I expected - turns out your neck position affects blood flow to your brain. Getting my eyes checked revealed minor vision problems I didn't even know I had. Fixing those reduced my headaches by about 90%.
I'm not saying you need to go as extreme as I did - but try at least one of these changes and see what happens.
